Tip the Dasher

DoorDash short story

Rilynn works for a busy law firm, so she usually orders food for lunch. She got sick & tired of Domino's, Pizza Hut & Jimmy John's all the time. She never used food delivery apps before. She was amazed about how all of her favorite restaurants are available on different apps. She wasn't sure if she wanted to do UberEATS, Waitr, Postmates, DoorDash, Deliveroo, or anything else they have. Just her luck, her boyfriend, (nicknamed Docker because he loves to go fishing) thought it was the coolest thing to order your favorite food for delivery. He suggested that she go with DoorDash. He came on her job for a quick visit that day.

Rilynn ordered a fish lunch special from Sal's Fish. Docker said, "Now c'mon, girl! I could've made that for you at home".

Rilynn said, "But Sal's Fish has a wider variety of fish from all over the world. All you bring home is basa, buffalo fish, whiting & red snapper. I want to try something different, like sturgeon or pollock."

Docker put his head down & laughed. He said, "You know you hurt my feelings right? That's why you smell like fish!" Then he walked off, shaking his head. & he said, "Oh yeah, & don't forget to tip the dasher! They work just about as hard as you."

Rilynn shrugged her shoulders & proceeded to set up a DoorDash account & order a MEGA cod fish meal, with 3 sides, a drink & dessert. She was HUNGRY that day. Also, she wanted to mock Docker right back. She had a meal, which consisted of 6 pieces of blackened cod fish, a side of macaroni & cheese, a side of cole slaw, & the 3rd side of green beans, plus 4 habanero pepper cornbread hush puppies. She also had butter brickle ice cream for dessert. All for the lunch special of $19.99, before taxes & fees.

She paid for it, & then told Docker all that she ordered. He was like, "Wow! All of that? You could split 1/2 with me."

She said, "Only if YOU tip the dasher!" Then they started arguing over who was going to tip.

They played around so much that Rilynn didn't notice the notifications, & then the dasher, Tanny, showed up.

When the girl, Tanny showed up, she got lost & was frustrated. Today was her first day working for DoorDash, & she caught Rilynn & Docker in the act of arguing over who was going to tip. Docker felt embarrassed, so he felt cornered. He tipped Tanny $30 in cash, just as Tanny was about to give up & quit after her 1st assignment. They were Tanny's first customers.

That gave Tanny hope to continue dashing.
