Can You Read Me A Bedtime Story?

Logan, a well-spoken 2-year old, is scared of the dark. He asked his mom, Courtney, "Mommy, Can you read me a bedtime story, please?", with his bottle in his mouth. He still wanted to suck on bottles. Courtney would give him an empty bottle to suck on at night. He never did like the pacifier. The bottle would help him feel more secure, & it gave him some sense of safety.

Courtney used to read scary stories to Logan at night, because she liked scary novels & movies. She had been reading them to him since before he could talk. Logan would have nightmares & wake up, screaming hysterically. He was inconsolable at times.

One day, he said, "No more scary stories!" Then, he pointed to the Bible. It was Courtney's grandmother's Bible lying there, collecting dust. Courtney flipped to the Bible & read to him the scriptures about the parable of the fig tree. Before she knew it, he was knocked out sleep. Snoring like a grown man!

The subsequent nights, he would beg for the Bible to be read.

"Mommy, can you read me a bedtime story? Bible please!"

The next night, she read the parable of the 10 virgins. That helped him sleep. He was no longer afraid of the dark.

By the time he was 4 years old, he started asking her to pray & sing hymns with him before bed. He would sing, pray & read every night with mommy. Then he became a big boy & started doing it all by himself without mommy. No more nightmares.
