Kelcie turned to her father & asked, "Dad. Why do you old folks like such simple things? I wanted to do something extravagant for you."
Her dad, Maddox, replied, "Because we old folks lived long enough to fulfill whatever we wanted. I've lived the high life, & realized that it's not all that cracked up to be. If you will, call it overrated."
Kelcie gently grabbed her dad by the arms & looked him deep in the eyes. She said, "Dad. I REALLY want to make this Father's Day special for you."
Maddox said, " Ok. Let's do what you young folks like to do. Go to the mall!"
She said, "Go to the mall?"
He said, "Yeah." Pause... "I'm SERIOUS!"
Kelcie said, "Hmm... Let's see what you got. This oughta be interesting."
Kelcie was wheeling her father around the mall. He just wanted to go window shopping & sightseeing. Kelcie wanted to take him out to either Cracker Barrel, Denny's, Golden Corral or Outback Steakhouse. He wasn't interested in ANY of that. He just wanted to keep things simple & eat at Charley's Cheesesteaks. All he wanted was loaded fries & a strawberry lemonade. Again. Keeping it simple. When she was wheeling him out, he got excited & then acted like he wanted to be spoiled with some sneakers at Hibbett Sports. He wanted 10 pairs, but all Kelcie was able to afford was 2. So, he got a pair of Nike Cortez & a pair of Puma sneakers.
Kelcie went home to tell the family how at first, Maddox wanted to be so simple, but then he went BONKERS for some shoes. This was a memory to be shared & laughed about, every Father's Day.
