Shelton Brooker woke up 1 morning & found out that his blue eyed, orange pit bull, Dreamsicle, had gone missing. Apparently, she ran away when his roommate, Tommy Nelson, accidentally let her out when he got off from work in the middle of the night. Tommy usually takes Dreamsicle out for a walk when he gets in from work. Dreamsicle loves having walks at nighttime. She doesn't like daytime, for some reason.
Tommy was devastated when the dog ran away. He tried chasing after her, but she was too swift. He chased after her for over a mile before he gave up. After he got back inside, he was too tired & worn out to even say anything. He just wanted rest. He also was afraid of Shelton being angry & kicking him out cold on the streets. He didn't want to 'fess up to what happened. He just left Shelton to think that the dog just mysteriously "disappeared".
Shelton was pacing back & forth, with his left hand on his hip, while wiping sweat off of his face with his shirt, using his right hand. He didn't know WHO to be mad at! He felt the same devastation he felt when someone stole his Triumph Rocket 3 GT motorcycle, & when his son almost passed away. He felt like he didn't know which hurt worse. Shelton didn't even have the money to put up a $1,000 reward for a missing dog.
Dreamsicle was gone for 8 months. One day during a church service, while the pastor was passing the plate for tithes, she popped up unexpectedly & walked in. She was dirty, exhausted, thirsty & hungry. She had lots of fleas, & she looked very malnourished. Looked like she had a bad case of ringworms. She was looking for some healing, too.
Shelton turned around & screamed, "Not MY Dreamsicle! Not MY Dreamsicle! Of ALL the dogs, she's the most special to me. She's the FRIENDLIEST dog I've had, the BEST dog I've had, the PRETTIEST dog I've had...", & he just kept on raving about the dog. Yes. That's that same Dreamsicle.
After church, there was a random, spontaneous, "Welcome Back Home" party for the dog, where they cleaned her up, fed her & groomed her. They even gave her some de-worming medication. What did they feed her? Because later on, she ended up having enough physical energy to play frisbee & chase after flying kites by the riverfront. This incident increased Shelton & Tommy's faith in God.
