Timberwood: Short Stories Edition - Vol. 43
It's Friday, the 15th. Charlie Price, Kurl's brother, decided to re-join Timberwood after being out for so long. He got re-hired to work for the cult on the 1st. He claimed that he re-joined because he was hurting for money. He admitted that he's too weak to suffer being homeless. He also admitted that his pride wouldn't allow him to be homeless. He doesn't see how Kurl could do it. He doesn't see how I, Nola Bordelon, could do it. He doesn't see how ANYONE could do it!
The new Timberwood cult leader, Pearline Hamilton, reassures the members that if they leave the cult, they would be blacklisted from any other employment aside from Timberwood, & that any members who leave would become homeless. That's a DEFINITE! This is 1 of the tactics to keep their members in constant fear. Fear of leaving.
Many Timberwood cult members idolize money, which corrupts their souls & also makes them more arrogant & conceited. Since Charlie left & then re-joined, he has to start all the way from the bottom (like a newbie) & then work his way back up. He doesn't get to pick up from where he left off at. This is humiliating. Now he has to prove his loyalty again in order to get back into Timberwood's good graces. Once your loyalty is proven, you can get paid daily. But for now, Charlie gets paid on the 1st & 15th of every month, like military.
Charlie is excited about being paid on his off day. The funds were direct deposited on a special MasterCard pay card with the Timberwood logo via Wells Fargo Bank. He woke up at 7:49 AM in the morning, took a shower, shaved, brushed his teeth, got dressed, fed the dog Speckles, & then went to the Chick-fil-A drive-thru. He LOVES Chick-fil-A.
After that, Charlie went to visit both of his parents' resting place. He got spooked because of the thought that if he fully escaped the cult, he would be 6 ft. under, as well. He shuddered at the thought of burning in hell for all eternity. He felt like his fear is making him feel like a punk, so he wrestled REALLY hard with himself on what the right decision should be. He drove back home, checked his bank card , & then realized that after his Chick-fil-A purchase, his balance said, "666.11". That spooked him. He was creeped out. He felt like he shouldn't have ordered that lemonade. Or that maybe he should've ordered an additional item. He feels like he has NOTHING BUT bad luck after re-joining Timberwood.
Charlie went into the refrigerator & then stared at a bottle of red wine, contemplating on whether or not to drink it. It's his other brother, Christian's bottle that was left. Christian & their cousin, Kendall, were drinking the other night. Charlie put his mouth on the bottle & took a couple of gulps. Almost immediately, Timberwood called him in, to replace Walter Strickland for the day because they were saying that Walter had to go to the emergency room for chest pains. For all I know, they were probably lying.
Charlie felt even MORE fear because according to the cult rules, he's not supposed to be drinking or doing any drugs. He put his phone on silent mode. He was overwhelmed & NEEDED his day off. He needed some downtime to ponder & reflect on his mistake. He saw a Bible lying on the dinner table, & he just flipped to randomly ANY scripture. Lo & behold, the scripture Proverbs 23:31 caught his eye: "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright." & then he read the ENTIRE chapter.
Charlie had to make a decision on who to fear & serve more. Timberwood or God. Was it a coincidence that as he perused more scriptures, he came across Joshua 24:15? "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
He started reading some more, & then he came across this. 1 Corinthians 10:21. "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.".
Brian Lucas, Charlie's cousin Tracie Jordan, Kelvin Banks AKA Garfield & also Scott Radner came to knock profusely on Charlie's door. Charlie quickly started sweating & shaking & almost instantly fainted from the fear. He tried to go hide from any windows because his apartment didn't have a closet. The bathroom even had windows.
The knocking started getting more intimidating, & then Charlie started crying out to God with tears, & praying. They were NOT letting up! They got angrier & started threatening him.
It was Scott's idea to call the cops to try to get Charlie mentally evaluated. Charlie was afraid he was going to die. He started having panic attacks. He just continued crying out & crying out to God with his Bible in his arms. Holding the Bible like holding a baby. Holding it dear to him.
Scott got the SWAT team & 9 helicopters for Charlie. The crew tried everything they could to beat him back into submission. Eventually, everyone gave up & let Charlie be. They were MAD as hell!
After everything died down, Charlie went to take a detox bath & later ordered Chinese food to feel better about his bank account balance (which brought it to $648.21) & had it delivered. He took a 4-hour nap & then it was dinner time. He skipped dinner to reflect on his experience. He told Kurl that he was out of Timberwood FOR GOOD!
A month later, Charlie ended up homeless, right along with Kurl. They fought through their situation, but stuck together. It made their bond stronger. Charlie regretted not listening to Kurl in the 1st place. Now, Charlie is getting the "crazy" badge from the cult. But he's glad to now become Crazy For Christ.
